Brazil has two more Points of Culture : CECIP e CEACA-VILA
Megapixel Project
With the Megapixel Project, CECIP participates in a vast network of institutions and organizations that develop projects aiming at strengthening the majority of Brazilian population's citizenship and access to cultural assets they are entitled to.
CCCria acquires a new dimension
Another Point of Culture in Rio de Janeiro is the CEACA-Vila, Center for Communal Action Lídia dos Santos, that has presented the project Centro Cultural da Criança-CCCria, developed in partnership with CECIP.
CECIP's Megapixel Project aims at developing the training of 140 highschool students in Educommunication. It consists in using Information and Communication Technologies (ITCs) to document in video local communities' cultural events and transform them in programs that are screened in many public spaces.
Becoming a Point of Culture means that CECIP's cultural activities were officially recognized. The Ministry of Culture states that a point of culture is "a link between Society and State that makes possible to develop cultural actions sustained by principles of autonomy, protagonism and social empowerment and to integrate the National Network of Culture Points shared management for change".
Know Ministery of Culture- MInC's More Culture Program
Untill 2010, this federal government program will support civil society organizations that work for Brazilian citizen's cultural inclusion with 4,7 millions of reais (approximately 2.3 million of US$). The importance of this endeavor can be measured by data gathered by MinC in 2007, showing that: 70% of Brazilians had no access to Internet either in their homes or in schools or workplace; 90% of the Brazilian municipalities had no movie theaters, museums or cultural spaces for multiple use. Only 13% of Brazilians were cinema-goers and 76% of the books available in the country were owned by a minority of only 16% of the population.
More Culture program unfolds in three lines of action : Culture and Citizenship, Cultural City e Culture and Income. The Program offers resources to each Point of Culture to develop, for a period of three years, health and education actions with low income families and with youths in particular. It is being established in all Brazilian capitals, in the 53 municipalities with the higher violence rates and in the 1251 municipalities with the lowest results in education, in the indigenous reservations, in former slaves territories, called quilombos and in areas in territorial dispute.
